Guess what? County burn ban is back

Yakima Herald-Republic

YAKIMA -- A reprieve from poor air quality in the Yakima Valley didn’t last long.

The Yakima Regional Clean Air Authority imposed an immediate ban Friday on use of uncertified wood stoves and fireplaces as stagnant air conditions are causing an increase in pollution levels.

The ban is expected to last through Monday, the authority said.

The ban covers all of Yakima County and includes an extension of an existing ban on agricultural and outdoor burning.

The federal Environmental Protection Agency also announced a continued ban on outdoor burning on the Yakama Indian Reservation through Monday.

Use of certified home-heating appliances is allowed. Residents who rely on wood as their sole source of heat are exempt from the restriction.
