YAKIMA -- Police Wednesday said an 11-year-old girl initially believed to have been the victim of a hit-and-run accident Tuesday may have only fallen down.
After locating the driver of a white Chevrolet Malibu believed to be involved in the accident, police said they found no evidence that the car actually struck the girl, who was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and then released.
The incident occurred about 7:50 a.m., while the girl was walking to Franklin Middle School, police said.
At first, police believed the car may have struck the girl as she attempted to cross 19th Avenue near Tieton Drive.
Witnesses told police the car stopped momentarily when the incident occurred, then fled east on Tieton Drive, police said.
The driver was cooperative, had insurance and appeared to be a responsible driver, police said.
