Bobo Brayton Day proclamation

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, Yakima has great sports legends and heroes with regional, national and worldwide sports acclaim, we honor our Sports Legend, Bobo Brayton.

WHEREAS, our community seeks to pay tribute to individuals who lived in the Yakima Valley and maintained athletic lives of discipline and purpose --

WHEREAS, promoting the history and heritage of sports in the greater Yakima area will help preserve parks, sports facilities and athlete programs for youth --

WHEREAS, successful athletes can provide education and inspiration on the lifelong value of physical activity and commitment to fitness --

WHEREAS, coach Chuck "Bobo" Brayton coached at Yakima Valley Community College for 11 years posting 10 divisional titles and nine state community college championships, coached 33 seasons in Pac-10 baseball with 21 Pac-10 titles, two trips to the College Baseball World Series and has been inducted into the Yakima Valley Community College Athletic Hall of Fame, Washington State University Athletic Hall of Fame, College Baseball Hall of Fame, and was the fourth-winningest coach in NCAA Division I history with 1,162 victories

NOW, therefore, we the mayor and city council members of Yakima, do hereby proclaim May 17, 2008 as Coach Chuck Brayton Day in the City of Yakima and challenge our citizens to remember coach Brayton's words, "Excellence shows, commitment counts and quality wins!"
