Baseball roundup -- Forgey fans 10 as Rangers claim SCAC district

MOSES LAKE -- Lucas Forgey scattered five hits and struck out 10 as Naches Valley claimed the SCAC District baseball title with a 3-1 win over Connell on Saturday night.

The win earned the Rangers, Class 1A state runners-up last year, the district's
No. 1 seed into state play. Naches Valley open tournament play at 1 p.m. Saturday at Civic Field in Wenatchee.

Jake Evans drove in one run for the Rangers while two others scored on throwing errors.

GOLDENDALE QUALIFIES FOR STATE: At Moses Lake, Nick Dohrman's four-hitter and Blake Lesko's pinch-hit, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Goldendale to a 1-0 victory over Kiona-Benton in a winner-to-state, loser-out game.

In a following contest to determine the district's third and fourth seeds, the Timberwolves fell to Warden 12-5.

Goldendale will play its state opener at 10 a.m. Saturday at Civic Field in Wenatchee.

Dohrman struck out eight in his shutout while Aaron Cochran was 2-for-4, including a leadoff double in the eighth.

Bulldogs bounced by Othello

SELAH -- Jacob Scott and Mark Garza combined to go 6-for-9 as Othello claimed the district's final state berth with an 11-5 win over Ellensburg.

The victory came after the Bulldogs had beaten the Huskies 27-0 in a district opener Tuesday.

Ellensburg (17-7) started the day with a 15-1 win over Prosser with Ben Luce, Tyler Morris and Dan Stanovich driving in three runs each.

RIVERSIDE CHRISTIAN 13, KLICKITAT-TLG 3: At Davis Field, Tyler Doornink threw a five-hitter with eight strikeouts and Brock Roberts drove in four runs to help the Crusaders capture the district title and earn a Class 2B state berth.

Riverside Christian (11-10) will head to Walla Walla next Saturday to play at 1 p.m. at Borleske Stadium.

Jason Bjur was 3-for-3 for the Crusaders, who trailed 2-1 before breaking the game open with nine runs in the fourth inning.

Coyotes claim championship

EAST WENATCHEE -- Jake Paul was 3-for-4 with a triple, homer and three runs batted in as Kittitas beat Oroville 15-4 for the title and No. 1 seed to the Class 2B state tournament.

Robert Langloss' two-hitter and Paul's walkoff single keyed the Coyotes' 2-1 conquest of Soap Lake in an earlier semifinal.

Kittitas (15-7) will open state competition Saturday at Shadle Park High School in Spokane.

Against Soap Lake, Bryce Gibb started the seventh with double, took third on Mike Reno's flyout, then scored on Spencer Slyfield's single. Slyfield then stole second with two out, and Paul followed with his game-winner.

HANFORD 4, WEST VALLEY 0: At Kennewick, four Hanford pitchers combined for six-hit shutout -- after the Falcons survived a 13-12 win over Southridge in eight innings -- and ended the Rams' season at 11-11.

Zach Browne's two-run double in the first inning provided all the scoring Hanford needed.
