The Mother’s Day Fiesta celebrated the East Yakima Learning Basket Project funded by the Washington State Department of Early Learning. The event included a display of sample baskets with items such as building blocks, small dolls and books to help parents help their young children learn.

Monroy and her daughter were part of a group that put together a performance of traditional Mexican dances to celebrate the holiday. Meeting at La Casa Hogar for three weeks, the daughters, ranging in age from 5 to 10, learned the steps, while the mothers sewed matching costumes.
