Rec notes -- Rebels teams win tourney titles

YAKIMA -- Two Yakima Rebels teams posted top-two finishes in their inaugural Rebel Yell youth baseball tournament last weekend at Elks Park.

The U-10 Rebels won the championship, defeating the Moses Lake GTLs 12-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The U-12 Rebels were beaten 3-0 by the Moses Lake Rivercats in that championship game.

Team members for the U-10 Rebels are Tyler Gutierrez, Jake Haas, Trenton Cleverly, Gerardo Garfias, Scott Maki, Ben Apple, A.J. Olsen, Dakota Eims, Jay Whorton, Zachary Dremann, Levi Coleman, Cole Blease, Kellen Stoffer and Chase Wells. The coaches are Julie Maki and Billy Wells.

Team members for the U-12 Rebels are Gavin Rodriquez, Parker Stohr, Matthew Suarez, John Haas, Jaiden Marquis, Koleman Johns, Ike Mitchum, Kevin Smith, Scott Stai, Hunter Vance, Cameron Rath and Logan Swain. The coaches are Rick Stohr, Robert Suarez and Harold Hutchinson Sr.

BOXING

Boxers win eight titles

Boxers from Yakima accounted for eight championships at two recent tournaments.

At the Connell Championships held April 26, Dustin Schmidt (145 pounds) of Evans Boxing club and Nate Serrano (152) of Yakima Eagles won their weight classes, while Antonio Neal (Round 3 boxing club), Patricia Pulido (Round 3), Jose Rocha (Evans) and John Drakes (Yakima Eagles) were uncontested champions.

At the Seattle South Park Championships on May 3, Rocha (163) and fellow Evans boxer Johnathan Carter (180) won titles. Anthony Cole-Pleasant (Evans) lost at 180 pounds.
