As we gather around our dinner tables this holiday season, it's important to remember that far too many people in the Yakima Valley have little to celebrate.

We don't always see their faces, yet we can't deny their pain.

Unfortunately, the agencies that screen the children, adults and seniors seeking assistance are stretched to their limits.

So they're hoping you can help during this Season of Sharing.

With information provided by local social service organizations, here are those in our community who need your compassion.

The rest is up to you ...

For the first time, this family of five has an apartment. They have everything in the way of love and support for each other, but could use help with household items and clothing.

They need pots and pans, plates, bowls, cups and silverware. Mom is asking for size 9 pants and medium long-sleeve shirts. Dad is asking for tennis shoes (size 10) along with a hooded sweatshirt to stay warm.

The family has two boys and one girl. The 3-year-old boy enjoys cars, coloring books, blocks and balls and wears clothes size 3T. The 2-year-old boy likes trucks and cars, coloring activities, watching family DVD movies ("Cars," "Spiderman"), and wears clothes size 2T. The family also has a newborn girl and is in need of diapers, wipes and other items.

If you would like to help, contact LaShaunda Harris, Triumph Treatment Center, at 248-1800. This agency will be taking donations until Christmas Eve at 3 p.m. Gifts and donations can be dropped off at 102 S. Naches Ave., Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
