As we gather around our dinner tables this holiday season, it's important to remember that far too many people in the Yakima Valley have little to celebrate. We don't always see their faces, yet we can't deny their pain. Unfortunately, the agencies that screen the children, adults and seniors seeking assistance are stretched to their limits. So they're hoping you can help during this Season of Sharing. With information provided by local social service organizations, here are those in our community who need your compassion. The rest is up to you ...   Grandmother is raising her three grandchildren (girls ages 3 and 11 and a boy, age 8), works full time and is facing health issues. Grandmother has had numerous surgeries on her knees and will soon have surgery on her back. Because of this, she will need to take time off of work. After taking care of medical expenses and routine day-to-day needs, this family faces a grim holiday season. The grandchildren (size 5 in girls, large in women's and boy size 12/14) could use winter coats, pants, shirts and socks. The family also needs help with food and household items (dishes, dish soap, laundry soap, toilet paper, paper towels, bath towels and hygiene products). Grandmother is diabetic and sticks to a diet (low sodium, low sugar). She would like to give the children at least one gift for Christmas. The 5-year-old girl likes dolls, coloring books and puzzles. The 11-year-old girl would like an MP3 player and a writing journal. The young boy likes building things and race cars.
