<p>SUNNYSIDE -- Two Lower Valley women were injured early Monday when their car struck a semi-tractor and trailer that was attempting a U-turn on Interstate 82, two miles west of Sunnyside, the Washington State Patrol said.<br /><br />A memo released by the patrol said the midnight accident injured Mary Galaviz, 77, and Delores Smasne, 58, both of Grandview. They were taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital.<br /><br />Smasne was transferred to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment, the hospital said, while Galaviz was treated and released.<br /><br />According to the accident report, Ruperto Gomez, 39, of Alliance, Neb., was attempting a U-turn in his 1999 Kenworth using a state Department of Transportation crossing. Gomez was not injured.<br /><br />The 1992 Buick driven by Galaviz was passing the semi-tractor at the time.
