Advertising The Yakima Ad Club has awarded the Desne Baldoz Memorial Scholarship to Annette Olivares and Michael D. Simpson Jr. The two recipients were selected on an essay, recommendations from teachers, grades and community service. Olivares, of Richland High School, will attend Columbia Basin College in the fall. Simpson will continue his studies at Perry Technical Institute. The scholarships are $1,000 each.  Communications Alliant Communications has hired Tim Vick as a solutions provider in sales and news business development. Vick has more than 12 years of experience in communications and information technology sales and expertise in long-term strategic planning.  Counseling The National Board of Forensic Evaluators has awarded Kathy Lanthorn and Tim Bernhardt the Forensic Mental Health Counselor certification. Lanthorn, of Lanthorn Counseling, and Bernhardt, of Bernhardt Counseling Services, earned the certification by attending training at the American Counseling Association's annual conference in Hawaii and passing written and oral board examinations.  Financial The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards has awarded Dan Sullivan the Certified Financial Planner designation. Sullivan, a financial adviser for Smith Barney in Yakima, earned the certification after meeting ethical requirements and successfully completing a rigorous examination.  Law The Labor Relations Institute has named Yakima attorney Gary Lofland to its list of Top 100 Labor Attorneys in the United States for 2008. Lofland, of Lofland & Associates, was chosen out of 8,900 attorneys nationwide.  Washington Law & Politics magazine has named Terry Abeyta and Rod Nelson as Super Lawyers for 2008. The two lawyers from Abeyta Nelson were among the top 5 percent of attorneys in the state chosen for the list, based on votes from their peers and a review by a selection panel.  Organizations The Yakima Rotary has chosen new officers and board members for 2008-2009. Officers are Greg Luring, McDonald's, president; Jim Berg, Larson, Berg & Perkins, vice president; Craig Mendenhall, BBM Financial Services, president-elect; and Dave Dion, RBC Wealth Management, secretary/treasurer. New board members are John Baule, Yakima Valley Museum; Gretchen Eickmeyer, Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences; and Michael Shepard, Yakima Herald-Republic.  The Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce has selected Brad Christianson as its chairman for 2008-2009.
