The Hitching Post was their destination, but a couple nicknamed “Bonnie and Clyde” by Post Falls police never made it.

Yakima residents Kevin Harper, 26, and Desirea Everts, 25, were in Kootenai County Jail on Monday facing multiple felonies. The couple were just a few freeway exits away from the wedding chapel when they were arrested, said Post Falls police Lt. Pat Knight.

Police arrested the pair Friday after a camera captured the license plate of the car they were driving, which had been reported stolen from Yakima.

About the time cops were alerted of the stolen white 1999 Volkswagen Bug, the couple pulled off Interstate 90 into Post Falls.

Knight said detectives found a loaded gun under the seat that Harper told him was stolen from a Greenacres garage. A computer found in the car had been stolen in Rosalia.

Police also found a list of local jewelry stores and some stolen jewelry in the car, Knight said.

Harper told police he and his wife-to-be had been on a methamphetamine binge and were unaware of their actions, Knight said.

The couple face charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, Knight said. Harper faces an additional count of unlawful possession of a weapon.
