ELLENSBURG -- Brandie Vea broke the school record for digs with 50 as Central Washington beat Sonoma State 3-1 in the CWU Invitational volleyball tournament Friday in Nicholson Pavilion.

The Wildcats followed that victory by beating Chaminade 3-0, improving to 6-1 for the season.

In the 25-18, 22-25, 25-14, 25-21 win over Sonoma, Erin Norris had 14 kills and Kady Try 13 while Maggie Olson totaled 40 assists. Sonoma slipped to 4-1.

In a 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 defeat of Chaminade (1-5), Vea, a freshman from Honolulu, added 11 digs while Norris had 11 kills and Kady Try nine kills and 16 digs.

The tournament concludes tonight with the Wildcats hosting Hawaii Pacific at 7:30 p.m.

Eisenhower loses opener

RATHDRUM, Idaho -- Lakeland scored all of its goals in a 15-minute span of the second half to overtake Eisenhower 3-1 in a non-league girls soccer match Friday.

Katy Allen scored in the fifth minute for the Cadets, who forced Lakeland's goalie to make 18 saves in their season opener.

First half: 1, Ike, Katy Allen (Jennifer McKenna), 5:00.

Second half: 2, Lakeland, Reynolds, 60:00; 3, Lakeland, Watson (Wolsfelt), 68:00; 4, Lakeland, Papplin, 75:00.

Tobin scores ace at Yakima Elks

Jolene Tobin recorded a hole-in-one Friday at the Yakima Elks Golf & Country Club when she aced the eighth hole. Tobin used a 7-iron on the 110-yard shot.

Jim Tobin, Bob Dahlin, Kim Davis and Bernie Davis witnessed the shot.
