ELLENSBURG -- Rachael Schurman and Erin Norris combined for 21 kills Thursday night as Central Washington overwhelmed St. Mary's (Texas) 3-0 in the CWU Invitational in Nicholson Pavilion.

Schurman had
11 kills and Norris 10 as the Wildcats won their home-opener 25-17, 25-13, 25-11.

Maggie Olson totaled 29 assists seven digs while Brandie Vea had nine digs for CWU (4-1), won its third 3-0 sweep of the season. The Rattlers fell to 3-2.

The Wildcats will continue tournament play at noon today against Sonoma State and at 7:30 p.m. against Chaminade. They'll conclude at 7:30 Saturday night against Hawaii Pacific.

Yaks rally past Roadrunners

Shalane Scott had
14 kills and Emily Harris added 13 as Yakima Valley rallied for a 3-2 victory over Linn-Benton in a non-league volleyball match Thursday night at Sherar Gym.

The Yaks won 25-27,
25-23, 17-25, 25-16, 15-12.

"We had a couple of great service runs," coach Al Rogers said. "We had a great run in Game 2 and another one in Game 4. The kids are finally coming together."

Roweena Yamat totaled 17 digs for YVCC (1-8), which opens NWAACC Eastern Region play Wednesday at Blue Mountain.

Reno standout signs with YVCC

Christina Gough, a
5-9 shooting guard from Reno High School, has signed a letter of intent with Yakima Valley Community College.

Gough made 80 3-pointers during a senior season in which she led Reno to a runner-up finish in the Nevada state tournament. She ranks second all time in Nevada girls hoops history for 3-pointers made.
