Health fair set for Zillah on Saturday

ZILLAH -- The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is sponsoring a health fair Saturday that's open to the entire Yakima Valley community.

The fair will be from 1-5 p.m. at Stewart Park in Zillah. Diabetes screening and other health information will be offered free of charge.

Food, raffles and activities for adults and children will also be available.

Seattle-based Fred Hutchinson operates a satellite office in Sunnyside that serves the Latino population with programs on diabetes, pesticides and cancer, among other health services.

Prosser City Hall to stay open longer

PROSSER -- This city soon will be open an extra 11/2 hours every day.

City Council members have expanded City Hall's office hours to 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to give residents extra time each day to do business.

The new hours will start Aug. 4.

City Hall is currently open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., a schedule started in 2006 to give city employees an hour to work without interruptions.

They still may have that time. City leaders will soon begin offering employees the chance to work staggered, four 10-hour days a week, said Charlie Bush, city administrator.

Employees will still work 40-hour weeks, so the extended hours should not add any labor costs to the city, Bush said.
