MATTAWA -- A large brush fire burning south of Mattawa has forced additional road closures since the blaze started Monday afternoon, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The intersection of state routes 24 and 243 was closed about 2:30 p.m. Monday because of the fire, reported 14 miles south of Mattawa. Since then, State Route 24 has been closed on the south side of the Vernita Bridge, northbound 243 access is closed at State Route 24, Road L Southwest is closed at Road 28 to southbound traffic, and Road O Southwest is closed at State Route 243.
