YAKIMA -- A Yakima man has died following a crash last Friday outside of Tieton.

Abel Ochoa, 48, died Sunday night at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center, according to a news release issued Monday by the Washington State Patrol. He was thrown from the car.

Ochoa's Honda Accord was headed south on Potter Road when he failed to yield at a stop sign for the intersection at Naches-Tieton Road, about a mile east of Tieton, troopers said.

The Accord hit a Chevrolet pickup driven east on Naches-Tieton by James Ketchum, 59, of Tieton. Ketchum was not hurt.

Three youngsters between the ages of 7 and 10 who were riding with Ketchum were taken to Yakima Regional, but they were not listed as patients Tuesday evening, a nursing supervisor said.

Ochoa was not wearing a seat belt. The occupants in the Ketchum vehicle were belted in.
