YAKIMA -- A 25-year-old man is recovering at a local hospital after he was shot several times, apparently by occupants of a passing car.

The shooting happened at 12:45 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of South Third Street, police said.

Raymond Corona told police he was walking down the street when the occupants of a blue Chevrolet Tahoe opened fire on him.

Corona, who is from Wapato, suffered two or three gunshot injuries to the lower abdomen and is recovering at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Yakima police Capt. Greg Copeland said several spent bullet casings were recovered from the roadway near where Corona said he was shot.

Copeland said Corona did not offer much detail about the shooting.
