GRANDVIEW --- The driver of a truck stolen Monday evening from Grandview reportedly hit one vehicle and nearly struck a car occupied by a family of three while running from police in Sunnyside, authorities said.
Grandview police were still seeking the maroon 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup after the driver managed to escape police near Tear and Stover roads in the Grandview area, Grandview Officer Travis Shephard said. The truck, bearing Washington license plate A56391S, had a red canopy with tinted windows.
Officers were still checking on the identity of the driver.
Somebody stole the truck about 5:45 p.m. while it was parked outside Sam's Cycle in the 100 block of West Wine Country Road, about a block away from the police station, Shephard said.
A Sunnyside police sergeant tried to stop the truck after seeing it run a red light in Sunnyside, Shephard said. More details were not immediately available on the crash with the car, but the driver of the family's vehicle told Shephard the truck nearly hit them near the Sunnyside Les Schwab.
Anyone with details about the case may call Grandview police at 882-2000 or Sunnyside police at 837-2120.
