ELLENSBURG -- Fourteen local athletes will be among the competitors in the GNAC track and field championships that will take place today and Saturday at Central Washington's Tomlinson Stadium.
Events start at 4 p.m. today and 11 a.m. Saturday.
The host Wildcats are contenders for men's team honors.
Among the local participants will be Matt Rogstad, a junior from East Valley, who will seek to defend his championship in the 400 meters.
Other area men's participants are Kevin Blount (Eisenhower, senior, distance runner), Andrew Christenson (Highland, freshman, sprints), Nick Collins (Zillah, junior, jumps), Mac McGrath (Kittitas, freshman, middle-distance), Joseph Nelson (Lyle, freshman, jumps), Daniel Ramirez (Toppenish, freshman, throws) and Matt Valdez (Toppenish, junior, throws).
Local women's competitors include Haley Amos (Highland, senior, jumps), Alejandra Borunda (West Valley, freshman, distance), Stephanie Cooke (Ellensburg, sophomore, middle distance), Chelsea Evans (West Valley, senior, sprints), Samantha Potvin (Davis, freshman, jumps) and Jordan Stueckle (Selah, freshman, throws).

La Salle linkster records ace
CLE ELUM -- La Salle High School golfer Alex Richardson scored a hole-in-one Thursday during competition at Suncadia, acing the 147-yard 12th hole with a 7-iron.
Witnesses were Carson Talerico, Jason Morrow and John Coffman.
