Yakima attorney Rob Lawrence-Berrey will announce Wednesday his candidacy for the Yakima County Superior Court bench.

He is seeking the seat now held by longtime Judge Robert Hackett, who has said he will not seek another term.

Lawrence-Berrey, 43, has been in private practice in Yakima for 18 years.

He received his bachelor's degree in economics from Whitman College in 1986 and his law degree from Willamette University in 1989.

He is a past president of the Yakima County Bar Association.

Lawrence-Berrey will make his announcement at 11 a.m. at the county courthouse entrance on North Second Street.

All county Superior Court judge positions are up for election this fall. The term is four years.

Superior Court judges earn an annual salary of $140,979, a figure that will rise to $148,832 on Sept. 1.

Salaries for judges and other elected officials in the state executive, legislative and judicial branches are established by a state commission. The county is responsible to pay half a judge's salary.
