YAKIMA -- After peeking into cribs for 30 years, two scientists will share what they've learned with Yakima audiences on May 1.

It's a day-long focus on how babies learn, sponsored by Circle of Success.

The event, in three segments, centers on presentations by Andrew Meltzoff, Ph.D. and Patricia Kuhl, Ph.D., co-founders and co-directors of the University of Washington Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences, and authors of the book, "Scientist in the Crib."

Their first appearance will be at 11:45 a.m. at the Yakima Convention Center for Rotarians and their guests. The Rotary Club of Yakima, Yakima Southwest Rotary and Yakima Sunrise Rotary are sponsors. For reservations, call 452-8332.

Also at the convention center, Meltzoff and Kuhl will address the public, as well as child care providers and educators, from 2:30-4 p.m. Tickets cost $15 to $25; professional development credit is available. Co-sponsor is Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

A reception, with appetizers and wine, will run 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Yakima Valley Museum. Call 469-9888 for reservations.

Meltzoff and Kuhl will talk about how babies solve major philosophical questions with brains that are smarter, faster and busier than their adult counterparts.
