TOPPENISH, Wash. — The State Patrol blames drunken driving for causing a Sunday evening accident that injured a Yakima man.
The patrol said Warren Thompson, 49, was taken to Toppenish Community Hospital for treatment following the 7:15 p.m. crash six miles south of here on Highway 97.
According to a State Patrol accident memorandum, Thompson was driving north on the highway when his 2002 Ford pick-up drifted off the roadway. He overcorrected, crossed the highway and struck a guardrail.
In addition to alcohol consumption, Thompson was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said. The vehicle was totaled.
