CLE ELUM, Wash. — Trafffic could be restricted into this evening on eastbound Interstate 90 near Cle Elum while crews work to clean up from a fuel trailer that overturned early this morning five miles east of there, authorities say.
Only one lane of the highway is open right now for eastbound traffic, with full reopening estimated by 6 p.m. Starting at 11 a.m., traffic had been detoured on to State Route 970 to allow a safe cleanup. The single lane opened about 1 p.m.
The rear trailer being towed by the eastbound semi flipped over after the big rig drove into the median about 5:15 a.m. The tractor then returned to the highway, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Kittitas County firefighters say a hazardous-materials team from Seattleset up foam lines and then planned to drain fuel from the 6,000-gallon tank.
The driver, from Lynnwood, Wash., was not hurt, troopers said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but the driver was not intoxicated, according to a patrol news release.
