YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Yakima man in his 50s was taken to a city hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation after waking up to discover him home was on fire Sunday morning.

The man and his mother were able to leave the home without further injury, firefighters said. An update on the man's condition was not immediately available late Sunday morning. Firefighters were called shortly before 11 a.m. to the home in the 2000 block of West Nob Hill Boulevard.

They quickly knocked down the flames, containing most of the fire damage to a single room in the attached garage where the man lives.

The house was not damaged, but it was expected to be at least temporarily unavailable due to wiring issues discovered by firefighters.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Westbound Nob Hill Boulevard was partly blocked by emergency vehicles for more than an hour.
