YAKIMA - Walter "Wally" Royal McCartney, 63, passed away on February 2, 2012 at Yakima Regional Cardiac Center. Born to Vilmer and Agnes (Lalond) McCartney in Green Bay, Wisconsin on August 12, 1948.

Wally grew up in Wisconsin where he lived with his 11 siblings and his grandmother. After graduating he served a short time in the military where he received an honorable discharge after serving in Germany. He moved to the Yakima Valley where he met and married Sue Anne (Baker) Wossidlo. They were married for 17 years and had 3 daughters; Tammy Ann (McCartney) Alexander, Kathleen Marie (McCartney) and Heather Dawn (McCartney) Moore. He worked in construction building pole barns and had a small machine shop, but he found his purpose when he went to work for the Wapato School District driving a school bus. He was also a doting and dedicated grandfather. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his 4 grandchildren. He loved fishing for Sturgeon, Whitefish and Bass. Whether the fish were biting or not or he was with someone or alone, he found it peaceful. He was a member of the North American Fishing Club. He was also a member of a CB radio club where he was known by the handle of "Leprechaun". For years he enjoyed talking on the CB every night to people all over the United States. He also enjoyed working in his shop. It seemed that there wasn't anything he couldn't fix or a tool he didn't have.

He is survived by his daughters Tammy Ann (James Eldon) (McCartney) Alexander of Toppenish, Kathleen Marie (McCartney) Caldwell of Banks, OR and Heather Dawn (McCartney) Moore of Cornelius, OR; brothers, Dean McCartney of Austin, TX, Gary McCartney of Pasadena, MD, Bill McCartney of Mt. Morris, MI, Joe McCartney of Brodhead, WI, Wayne McCartney of Pleasant Prarie, WI and Russ McCartney of Wisconsin and sister, June (McCartney) Lonsign of Oconto, WI; grandchildren, Derin Cheyanne Alexander, Kayla Delaney Alexander, Justin James Alexander and Peter Wilmer Alexander.

Funeral services will be held at Merritt Funeral Home on Saturday February 11th 2012 at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at RCMP with a potluck reception at Wapato Middle School. To share a memory of Wally please visit an online guest book at www.merrittsfuneralhome.com.
