GRANDVIEW -- A parole check resulted in the discovery of a modest indoor marijuana grow and two arrests Wednesday, police said.

The case began at 5:20 p.m. when a parole officer and a detective assigned to the LEAD task force arrived at 302 Elm St. to check on a parolee. LEAD is short for Law Enforcement Against Drugs.

According to a report, the two officers went upstairs to the parolee's room and noticed that he was holding a marijuana pipe.

The parolee then said he got his stash from a resident downstairs, leading to the discovery of a 26-plant grow in the basement as well as several pounds of processed pot.

In addition to the parolee, the officers also arrested a 43-year-old female resident who allegedly claimed responsibility for the marijuana.

They said she claimed to have a medical marijuana card but couldn't produce it. They also said there was no other paperwork for the grow as required by law.

The woman was subsequently booked into the Yakima County jail on charges of third-degree assault for allegedly shoving an officer, as well as drug charges.

In addition the marijuana, the woman also had a baggie in her pocket containing several Oxycodone painkillers.
