YAKIMA, Wash. — A man who robbed a bank in downtown Yakima today was nabbed as he tried to flee the building, police said.
The robbery occurred about 4:30 p.m. when a man entered the Chase Bank at the corner of Yakima Avenue and Third Street and demanded money, Lt. Tom Foley said.
The man then fled when he saw officers arriving but was caught at the door, Foley said.
No injuries were reported and the robber was not armed, Foley added.
The robbery during rush hour drew a heavy response from the police department. Multiple police vehicles surrounded the building, and several officers had automatic rifles.
At the scene, a Chase employee who did not give her name initially denied anything had happened, then said she was not authorized to speak to the news media.
