YAKIMA, Wash. -- He wanted more. He didn't get any.

Police said a man who tried to rob a bank in downtown Yakima on Thursday was dissatisfied with the amount of money tellers gave him and threw it back, demanding more.

The robbery occurred at 4:15 p.m. at the Chase Bank branch at Yakima Avenue and Third Street.

Yakima police Lt. Tom Foley said the robber was unaware that a silent alarm had been triggered and was in the process of demanding more cash when he saw officers surrounding the bank.

Leaving the money behind, he tried to flee but was captured immediately upon leaving the building, Foley said.

The suspect was identified as Steve William Chandler, who police said was unarmed.

The robbery during rush hour got lots of attention thanks to a heavy police response, including some officers armed with automatic weapons.

A Chase employee who did not give her name initially denied anything had happened, then said she was not authorized to speak to the news media.
