Arleen C. Baxter

Arleen Catherine Baxter, 76, of Prosser died Sunday in Richland. Mrs. Baxter was born in Pasadena, Calif.

Survivors include her husband, William "Fred" Baxter of Prosser; a son, Mike Baxter of Prosser; a daughter, Linda Watson of Benton City; two stepbrothers, William Reilly and John Reilly; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser, with burial to follow in East Prosser Cemetery.

 

Hilda C. Horst

Hilda Christine Horst, 89, of Grandview died Saturday in Sunnyside. Mrs. Horst was born in New Leipzig, N.D. In 1950, she and her family moved to Bismarck, N.D., where she was a seamstress. In 1975 the family settled in Granger and began a business harvesting grapes in 1980.

Survivors include three sons, Jerald Horst of Franklinton, La., and Wayne Horst and Monte Horst, both of Grandview; two sisters, Leola Dietz of Linton, N.D., and Mildred Knodel of San Diego; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sunnyside Christian Reformed Church. Burial will follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.

 

Walter R. McCartney

Walter Royal McCartney, 63, of Wapato died Thursday at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center. Mr. McCartney was born in Green Bay, Wis. He drove a school bus for Wapato School District for 31 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Tammy Alexander of Toppenish, Kathleen Caldwell of Banks, Ore., and Heather Moore of Cornelius, Ore.; six brothers, Bill McCartney of Michigan, Dean McCartney of Texas, Russ McCartney of Wisconsin, Gary McCartney of Maryland, Joe McCartney and Wayne McCartney; and a sister, June Longsign of Wisconsin.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato. Burial will be in Reservation Community Memorial Park in Wapato, with a potluck reception to follow at Wapato Middle School.

 

Mike M. Korach

Mike M. Korach, 93, of Yakima died Jan. 31. Mr. Korach was born in Ely, Nev., and served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He lived in the Yakima area for more than 62 years and worked as a dentist since 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Mae Korach of Yakima; four sons, Michael Korach and Patrick Korach, both of Kirkland, and Donovan Korach and Kim Korach, both of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.


Freda I. Allen

Freda I. Allen, 86, of Yakima died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Allen was born in Wheeling, W.Va.

Survivors include two sons, Keith Allen and Kim Allen, both of Yakima; a sister, Laurie Allen of Yakima; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home of Yakima.

 

Herbert N. Steffan

Herbert Norman Steffan, 84, of Selah died Sunday at home. Mr. Steffan was born in Eureka, S.D. He worked for Douglas Aircraft and Lockheed Aircraft companies in California, retiring in 1990 after 40 years in the aircraft industry. He then moved to Selah.

Survivors include his wife, Corrine Steffan of Selah; two children, Cindy Ratcliff of Rocklin, Calif., and Jeffrey Steffan of Mojave, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Gleed. Arrangements are by Affordable Funeral Care of Yakima.

 

Valentin V. Mendoza

Valentin Villa Mendoza, 65, of Toppenish died Monday. Mr. Mendoza was born in Michoacan, Mexico. He worked as a farm laborer and owned Villa Seafood for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Villa Contreras of Toppenish; a son, Valentin Villa Jr. of Moxee; seven daughters, Lorena Fernandez of Union Gap, Bertha Villa Maldonado of Omak, Rosaura Reynaga of Yakima, Dalila Villa and Yesenia Villa, both of Toppenish, Sandra Villa Cortes of Pasco and Yasmin Villa Lorenson of Germany; a brother, Jose Villa of Sunnyside; and five sisters, Salud Villa Vasquez, Martha Villa Novela and Maria Villa Velasquez, all of Mexico, Victoria Villa Guererro of Sunnyside and Dolores Villa Mendoza of Los Angeles.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah.

 

Maidie Hettich

Maidie Hettich, 74, of Caldwell, Idaho, died Thursday. Mrs. Hettich was born in Toppenish and lived in Caldwell for the past 10 years. She drove a school bus for the Toppenish School District.

Survivors include a son, Vincent Hettich of Granger; a daughter, Stacie Toresdahl of Caldwell; a sister, June Dixon of Zillah; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Zillah Nazarene Church. Burial will follow in the Zillah Cemetery.
