Two juveniles arrested after Zillah area burglary

ZILLAH, Wash. — Two 15-year-olds from Sunnyside were arrested Tuesday morning following the burglary of a home in the 3000 block of Cheyne Road.

According to Yakima Sheriff deputies, the burglary at about 10:50 a.m. was interrupted by the homeowner. He provided deputies with a description of the burglars’ clothing, vehicle and what direction they had driven off. He also said a handgun had been stolen, according to a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office.

As they searched the area, deputies spotted the suspects stuck in an area used by off-road vehicles, according to the release.

When the suspects saw the deputy ran, but were later found in a canal less than a mile away from where they abandoned their vehicle, which was later discovered to have been stolen, deputies said.

The pair was arrested without incident and the handgun and other property stolen in the burglary, along with property taken in another burglary were recovered, deputies said.
