Kind gesture at store
To the editor -- There are still good people in Yakima. On Jan. 29 about 6:40 p.m., I was standing in line at the Safeway on Fifth Avenue when the young lady in front of me turned and handed me a gift card, said "have a good night" and quickly walked away. At first I thought that maybe she thought I had dropped the card, but the whole thing just felt odd to me. I turned to the cashier and asked what just happened. She proceeded to tell me that the young lady had just purchased the card.
It just amazes me that some people are still willing to do things like this for complete strangers. By the time we knew what had happened, the young lady was long gone and my husband and I never got to properly thank her. So if you are reading this, thank you so very much. You have no idea the impact your kind gesture has had.

Plowing appreciated
To the editor -- Many thanks to the private contractor who plowed 52nd Avenue recently in the early morning hours.
While the city does not have the time to unplug driveways, the contractor who plowed our street didn't leave a pile of snow blocking our driveway, which meant we could get the car out and walk to the mailbox, too. They had no idea it was the driveway of an elderly couple, and we don't know if others had this same courtesy or not, but my husband, Roger, and I were thankful.

Great job plowing snow
To the editor -- Our transportation team would like to send a huge thank you to the Yakima County road maintenance team. Out in Selah, you are doing such a great job keeping our road plowed and sanded. Without you, we couldn't get our kids to school safely. From our team to yours, thank you!
