YAKIMA -- Elizabeth Smart, who nearly a decade ago was abducted as a 14-year-old from her home in Salt Lake City and held captive for nine months by a self-proclaimed prophet, will talk about her experiences before a Yakima audience in April.
Scheduled to speak before the annual YWCA Leadership Luncheon, Smart will talk about her traumatic experience and how she has overcome it.
Smart, 24, has gone on to advocate for abducted children. She helped start the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, which works to prevent Internet crimes against children.
She'll appear at the luncheon, at noon April 9 at the Yakima Convention Center. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online at www.ywcayakima.org or by phone at 509-248-7796.
