There is a definite mission at Gasperetti's Restaurant & Bar in Yakima.
There are no Happy Meals, no plastic chairs and no paper cups.
When you walk in the door, you immediately have to adjust your eyes. The place is dark with some mood lighting and jazz playing overhead, the perfect setting for a special occasion or a Saturday night out with your significant other.
It's not a huge place, but its setting plays well for someone looking for a quiet night and good food. There's a main dining room that includes a bar with about eight chairs. There's also a side room with additional seating.
When I went there this week, I was in the mood for pasta, so I ordered the Linguini Chicken Alfredo ($15.50).
The dish comes with -- as you might guess -- chicken, linguini and a creamy Alfredo sauce. Also included in the dish are peas and mushrooms.
What made the dish for me was the chicken and the sauce. The creamy sauce was very flavorful and the chicken was perfect, cooked well enough to keep all of its flavors but soft enough to chew easily.
The entree comes with bread and, at least when we were there, the service was outstanding. And, as you'd expect at a nice, sit-down restaurant, fresh ground pepper and Parmesan cheese are offered at the table.
The prices are what you'd expect at a fine dining establishment built around ambiance and an overall experience.
The restaurant features a variety of sandwiches for lunch. At the low end of the price range are the Patty Melt and a BLT for $10.50. The Steak Sandwich is the priciest, at $16.50.
In the pasta category, dishes start at $10.50 (Spaghettini with Meat Sauce or Ravioli with Meat Sauce) and go up to $15.50 (Linguini Chicken Alfredo or John's Chicken Cacciatora).
Specialty salads run from $12.50 to $19.50.
For dinner, many of the items go up in price for a slightly larger portion. Dinner entrees on the chef's menu (which is not typically available for lunch) range in price from $18 to $38.
