YAKIMA, Wash. -- A 52-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured Saturday when he crashed into a power pole on Nob Hill Boulevard, Yakima police said.

The crash happened at 1:20 p.m. when the motorcyclist, whose name was temporarily withheld by police, veered into a power pole at Nob Hill and Seventh Street.

In a news release, traffic Sgt. Shawn Boyle said the cause of the crash was unclear and that witnesses said the motorcycle was going about the speed limit before leaving the roadway.

He said the rider suffered serious head and internal injuries in the crash and is expected to be transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for further treatment.

The man’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. Boyle said there was no indication that intoxicants were a factor; an investigation is continuing.
