YAKIMA, Wash. -- The book came out earlier this month. Now the story of Toppenish High School graduate Gaby Rodriguez will be seen in the movie "The Pregnancy Project."
Rodriguez pretended to be pregnant and took notes for her senior project last year, recording how people responded to her.
The Lifetime movie will air at 5 p.m. today.
Alexa Vega portrays Rodriguez in the movie. Vega also played the role of Carmen Cortez in the "Spy Kids" series.
The book, which also carries the title "The Pregnancy Project," was released earlier this month. Rodriguez co-wrote the book with author Jenna Glatzer. It was published by Simon & Schuster.
Rodriguez's senior project aimed to show students the impact of stereotypes and rumors. But as a social experiment, it also meant lying to her classmates and family members to keep the fake pregnancy a secret.
The tension created during the experiment and after the reveal is chronicled in the movie.
Rodriguez, who has been inundated with media requests since she revealed her fake pregnancy in April, is currently a student at Columbia Basin College in Pasco.
'The Pregnancy Project'
* Based on the real-life story of Toppenish High School graduate Gaby Rodriguez, the movie will air at 5 p.m. today on the Lifetime network.
