Hearing Wednesday on electric rate increase proposal

YAKIMA, Wash. — Pacific Power will take public comment Wednesday at City Council chambers on its proposal for a 4.3 percent rate increase.

The hearing is set for noon at 129 N. Second St.

The utility is seeking its fifth increase since 2007. This hike would generate revenue of $12.9 million. As proposed, the increase would add $4.65 to the average residential customer's current bill of $103.08 per month.

The staff of the state Utilities and Transportation Commission has said the uility needs only a 1.1 percent increase. If approved, new rates would be effective in May.
