YAKIMA, Wash. — A mix of snow and sleet is falling on the Yakima Valley, a wintry mixture that may be complicated by freezing rain this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The high temperature is near 24.
A total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches is possible, forecasters say.
Roads remain slick and a number of schools are closed or running on two-hour delays.
Eastbound lanes of Snoqualmie Pass have now reopened, but westbound lanes remain closed due to a multi-vehicle accident near Easton.
Troopers are on the scene, and have estimated that the road will reopen by about 11:45 this morning.
Both directions of Interstate 90 were closed this morning for avalanche control.
U.S. Highway 12 going over White Pass looks better. It’s raining and there’s slush and ice on the roadway. Traction tires are required both directions there, too.
In Klickitat County, U.S. Highway 97 over Satus Pass is getting a mix of snow and freezing rain, and again, traction tires required in both directions.
State Patrol in Klickitat says there are no major blocking incidents so far this morning, but the pass continues to be treacherous.
• Public schools in Mount Adams, Toppenish, Highland, Grandview, Sunnyside, Prosser, Granger, East Valley, Mabton, Zillah and Granger are closed. Also closed is Riverside Christian School.
Yakima Valley Community College has canceled classes and activities at both its Yakima and Grandview campuses, as well as all learning centers, for today and this evening.
Operating on a two-hour delay are Union Gap and Yakima school districts, along with La Salle High School. Naches Valley is on time, but is using alternate bus routes for Shadbolt and Cedar Hill.
In Klickitat County, Goldendale School District is closed.

• In Prosser garbage service contracted through Tri-Cities-based Basin Disposal Inc. is suspended for today. Thursday’s garbage routes will be serviced on Friday, and Friday’s routes will be pushed to Saturday, all pending developing weather conditions.
