YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Homeless Network of Yakima County is seeking donations for this month's Project Homeless Connect, a service fair designed to help connect people who are homeless with services.
The event will be Jan. 26, the same day as the eighth annual Point in Time Survey in Yakima and Sunnyside.
Last year more than 500 people attended the Project Homeless Connect events in Yakima and Sunnyside. Attendees received health and dental screenings, haircuts, a hot meal and care packages and were able to make free phone calls.
Needed now are warm clothing, coats, shoes, blankets, backpacks, sleeping bags, duffle bags and personal hygiene items. Volunteers are also needed to assist with Project Homeless Connect as well as the Point in Time Survey.
Survey volunteers must attend a one-hour training in order to participate. Volunteers can work for a couple hours or the entire day, and duties range from greeting people at the door to setup and breakdown.
If you would like to make a donation or learn more about being a volunteer, call the Yakima County Department of Human Services at 509-574-1520. All donations are tax deductible.
