Snokist warns of 610 layoffs in February

YAKIMA, Wash. — Snokist Growers informed the state Friday that 610 full and part-time employees will be laid off in February.

Most of those employees are seasonal workers who have already been laid off for the season, the company told the state Employment Security Department. The company did not say whether they will return to the company for the next canning season.

Snokist filed a reorganization bankrupcty earlier this week, citing fallout from a food-safety problem identified last spring by the Food and Drug Administration.

The cooperative notified the state of the impending layoffs as required by law under the The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN)
