What are Valley's most interesting places?

Yakima Herald-Republic

Are there tunnels beneath the oldest streets in downtown Yakima?

Rumors have swirled for decades about long-forgotten subterranean passages. If true, did they hide opium dens or were they mundane places for storage?

Central Washington is chock-full of interesting places and surprising things, and the Yakima Herald-Republic wants your help identifying them.

Prosser has Gravity Hill, where cars appear to roll uphill. There's a ghost town, of sorts, in the Naches Ranger District. It's called Copper City.

East of Yakima, there's a public trail that offers a rare glimpse into the Army's Yakima Training Center.

These are the kinds of places and things that you and a few friends might know, but otherwise go unnoticed by most of the rest of us.

We want your ideas for a series of stories on little-known but interesting places and things in Central Washington. These can be man-made or natural -- an overlooked statue, an unusual building, the site of an otherwise forgotten piece of history.

Got an idea? Email it to amazingplaces@yakimaherald.com or mail to Yakima Herald-Republic, P.O. Box 9668, Yakima, WA 98909.

Meanwhile, we'll keep looking for the tunnels.
