Two hikers missing on Mount Adams were found in mostly good health Monday by search and rescue teams.

Family reported the missing hikers -- two Portland physicians -- about 11 p.m. Sunday, according to a Yakima County Sheriff's Office news release.

Early Monday, rescue teams from the sheriff's office, Central Washington Mountain Rescue and the Forest Service Climbing Rangers began combing the mountain. A Ranger discovered the hiker's empty tent at the 9,000-foot level, according to the release.

Mountain rescue teams from Portland, Vancouver, Wash., and Corvallis and Eugene, Ore., also responded. The two hikers were found just west of the mountain, the release said.

The hikers were transported to the Trout Lake Ranger station, where they were reunited with family, the release said.

The hikers were well-equipped and experienced. After climbing about 11,000 feet to the False Summit, they encountered a whiteout, became disoriented and missed their return route, the release said.

One hiker suffered an ankle injury and scrapes after falling down part of a snow slope, the release said.
