A Selah mom and her son have been immortalized in the pages of a children's book.
Amy Berkheimer and 5-year-old Eli were the inspiration for two characters in the new book "Wendy on Wheels Saves the Day" by self-published St. Louis author Angela Ruzicka.
The mom in the book "has a ponytail and glasses -- just like me," says Berkheimer. And the boy in the book is named Eli, just like her son, who has cerebral palsy.
Berkheimer met the author online last year when she left a comment on her blog suggesting she include a nonverbal character -- like Eli, a preschooler at John Campbell Elementary -- in a future book.
Ruzicka, in turn, read Berkheimer's blog and eventually sent a message back saying there's a boy named Eli in her next book, illustrated by Elizabeth Gearhart.
Berkheimer ordered it from Amazon.com when it became available at the end of February and was surprised to see the mom in the book looked like her.
