Casa Mia closes its doors

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Yakima Italian restaurant has closed.

Casa Mia closed its doors on Dec. 31 after six years of operation under current owner Courtney Witt.

The decision to close came amid an accepted offer for the restaurant’s building, which was listed for sale last month by the Olympia-based parent company.

The corporation currently owns the Yakima property at 3312 W. Nob Hill Blvd. and has been renting it out to the local franchisee. It was forced to sell the building after the passing of a business partner.

With the prospective buyer looking to use the building for something else, it was best to close at year’s end rather than deal with the accounting hassles of closing mid-year, Witt said.

The building sale is expected to close at the end of the month, said Bob Knudson, president of the parent company.

It’s too early to determine whether Casa Mia’s departure from Yakima is permanent or temporary, he said. It will re-evaluate the franchise once the building is sold.
