Blood donors needed

Yakima Herald-Republic

YAKIMA -- The American Red Cross has issued an urgent call for blood donors in the Pacific Northwest.

People with all blood types are in demand, but especially those with type O negative, the universal donor. To donate, people must be at least 17 years old, be in generally good health and meet weight and height requirements.

According to a news release, more than 39,000 pints of blood are needed every day for patients in the United States. Blood is used for the treatment of cancer patients, people with blood disorders, premature babies, transplant recipients, trauma victims and more. Each whole blood donation can help save up to three lives.

To schedule an appointment to donate call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org for more information.
