Gary Johnson empties a bucket of peppers just picked by his wife, Jill, into a box in the back of their SUV at Benedictos Fruit and Produce near Wapato. The Johnsons, from Marysville, Wash., braved Tuesday's rain to pick onions, peppers and tomatoes to make salsa and other dishes. The Johnsons say they usually come to the Yakima area once a year to pick fruits and vegetables, taking one day to find the U-pick field with the best produce and a second day to gather the produce.
