TERRACE HEIGHTS -- Firefighters used a saw to cut through a chain blocking their access to an East Valley fire that destroyed a shed and two vehicles Saturday morning.
About 8:50 a.m., firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 5000 block of Bohoskey Drive, high on the ridge northeast of Terrace Heights.
They found their way blocked by a chain with links so thick, bolt cutters would not work, East Valley fire Chief George Spencer said.
He was unsure if the chain blocked private property or a public roadway, but reminded residents, "Please, give us a way to get to you."
The chain slowed firefighters by about eight minutes, but they still saved a house about 20 feet from the blaze, Spencer said.
In all, the fire did about $20,000 worth of damage, he said.
