TOPPENISH, Wash. — Authorities are looking for the driver of a car that fled the scene after rear-ending a 74-year-old motorcyclist Sunday evening.
Magdaleno G. Vela of Wapato was riding a 2008 Suzuki AN 650 K just north of Toppenish on U.S. Highway 97 about 8:50 p.m. when he was struck from behind by a 1999 Mazda Protege, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Vela, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle, the State Patrol said. He was taken to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center, where he was treated and released, a nursing supervisor said.
Authorities later found the Protege, but are not sure who was driving it, a State Patrol dispatcher said.
The place were authorities found the car wasn’t immediately available, the dispatcher said.
