TOPPENISH, Wash. — A small child was injured in a rollover wreck south of Toppenish early this morning, the Washington State Patrol said.
The rollover occurred at 3:08 a.m. on Yost Road when the driver, 24-year-old Chantel R. Peters, made what the patrol described as a "hard steering maneuever," causing her 1999 Plymouth Breeze to flip over.
Peters escaped injury, but a 5-year-old passenger in the car was ejected in the crash and had to be taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
The patrol did not identify the child but noted that the child was not buckled in at the time of the accident. Without a name, the Herald-Republic is unable to request information about the child’s medical condition.
Alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash and charges against the driver are pending, according to a patrol news release.
