Dylan, Mellencamp to play Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Times they are a-changin' in Yakima.

First Elton, now Dylan?

Music legends Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp are slated to play the Yakima County Stadium on Friday, Sept. 3.

"We hope to get it," said K.L. Wombacher, general manager of the Yakima Bears.

Wombacher isn't confirming the show yet, but said he hopes to know by the end of the week. Both Dylan's and Mellencamp's websites confirm the dates, and Dylan's website, bobdylan.com, lists the on-sale ticket date as 10 a.m. July 6 for fan club members and 10 a.m. July 10 for the general public.

The concert, put on by Jam Productions, would be sponsored by the Yakima Bears, who host their final home game of the season the night before, Sept. 2.

According to Dylan's website, ticket prices at other venues range from $39.50 to $55.

The concert follows a successful tour last summer of minor-league ballparks around the country featuring Bob Dylan and his Band, John Mellencamp and Willie Nelson.

The concert is in connection with Mellencamp's latest album, No Better Than This, scheduled to be released Aug. 17 by Rounder Records.

The album, produced by T Bone Burnett, will feature original songs recorded on vintage equipment - a 55-year-old Ampex tape recorder with just one microphone -- at a variety of historically significant locations around the South.

Dylan's stop in Yakima would precede his headlining Saturday's Bumbershoot show in Seattle.

Elton John is set to perform at the Yakima Valley SunDome on July 18.
