YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center's newly hired chief executive has decided not to accept the position for undisclosed reasons, the hospital said Thursday.
Janet Carbary was to have taken the helm this week. Officials at the Carlsbad Medical Center, where she worked previously, said she had already resigned that position.
"Our primary candidate, Janet Carbary, has elected to withdraw from consideration. We respect the candidate's decision," said Ann M. Barnhart, senior vice president of operations for Health Management Associates, Regional's parent corporation.
Carbary, a Spokane native, was selected by HMA to replace Monte Bostwick, who became CEO of Biloxi Regional Medical Center in Biloxi, Miss., in April.
Barnhart said the search for a new CEO will continue. "We are confident that, through our board's guidance and strong physician leadership, we will quickly identify a new candidate to fill this key leadership position."
Regional is a 214-bed facility with 700 employees and is one of two hospitals in the city of Yakima.
